Why do you describe yourselves as an ethical cleaning agency?


Our company is founded on the ethos of support and improvement. Our team of cleaners and carpet cleaners are given on-the-job training to get them up to speed as quickly as possible. We also support in the following ways:


  • We pay above minimum wage as we feel cleaners do a worthwhile job
  • We organize free English lessons if necessary
  • We provide information and assistance in taxation and government registration
  • We provide assistance and translation for any healthcare issues
  • We have a clear line of promotion to offer our 'stars' opportunities as supervisors and career advancement at Homebirds HQ

  • This may result in the odd spelling error and impromptu English grammar lesson in the office but it makes sure that all of our cleaners have a real opportunity for career progression in Homebirds and beyond.

    What is the difference between regular cleaning and spring cleaning?


    A regular clean can be defined as a clean of the areas of the home that you have contact with on a daily basis. In the kitchen its work surfaces, cooker top, washing dishes and sweeping and mopping the floors.


    For a spring clean it's a deeper clean which means cleaning all of the corners of the house that you don't get to on regular basis which it takes considerably longer. For the kitchen it would involve cleaning the oven, inside the fridge, inside the cupboards, skirting boards, doorframes, internal windows etc.


    Do I need to provide the cleaning products?


    We will provide all of the cleaning products and equipment on spring cleans', end of tenancy and builders cleans' that are used during the clean. If you have any specific requirements that need specialist cleaning products then we will order them and pass on the cost.


    We would ask that you supply all of the cleaning products and equipment for regular cleaning as most cleaners travel by public transport.


    We recommend the following:


    Mop and bucket, furniture polish, window and glass cleaner, kitchen cleaner, bathroom cleaner and limescale remover (e.g. Viakal) or eco friendly alternatives.


    Please ensure your hoover is in good working order and you have hoover bags if necessary.


    We are happy to arrange a delivery of cleaning products for £25 per month.


    What are after builders cleans?


    Whether you have had a whole refurbishment or just a small DIY project it can result in a very dusty home so much so that it generally takes about 10 hours to clean a 2 bed flat. We recommend that you wait until at least the day after builders are out before starting with the clean to let the dust settle.


    When you book an after builders clean with Homebirds we will send a team of cleaners with all of the cleaning equipment and materials to remove the dust and get your place feeling like home again.


    What cleaning products do you supply on spring cleans?


    We bring the following:


  • Mops and buckets
  • Tall dusters for ceiling cobwebs and ostrich feather dusters
  • Henry hoover
  • Regular or eco friendly cleaning products (please specify at booking)

  • Are there any additional charges or fees?


    We do not charge agency fees or administration fees for regular cleaning.


    We ask that you pay for parking and the congestion charge on carpet cleaning and one off cleans.


    What areas in London do you cover?


    We cover all areas within M25 for carpet cleaning and one off cleaning. As our regular cleaners use public transport we can generally serve all zones on the underground and most areas covered by National rail in and around London.


    How much does your service cost?


    Regular Clean - £10.99 per hour for daily chores to keep your home ship shape


    Spring Clean/End of tenancy clean - £15.99 per hour to get your home sparkling from ceiling to skirting


    After builders Clean - £15.99 per hour for heavy duty dust and such


    Carpet Cleaning - From £25 - £35 per room. Minimum charge £60.


    Why is your service more expensive than hiring my friend's cleaner?


    When you come through Homebirds you can be sure that you are going to get the best service possible.


  • We vet and provide ongoing training for all of our cleaners
  • We manage the cleaner so you don't have to. We are at the end of the line for any specific requirements and will ensure they are completed
  • We pay our cleaners above minimum wage
  • We have dedicated customer service teams liasing with our cleaners to make sure that your requirements are met
  • We do regular spot checks to make sure that standards stay high
  • We provide holiday and sickness cover for your regular cleaner
  • If you are not happy with the cleaner provided we will replace them free of charge
  • We have a secure key replacement and holding service
  • We have public liability insurance up to £1million
  • We have employers liability insurance up to £10k

  • Do I need a housekeeper or cleaner?


    The benefits of having a weekly cleaner are:


  • She has a weekly list of tasks to complete in a specific period of time
  • You share the tasks with the cleaner so its more cost effective
  • You can change the weekly tasks to include oven cleaning or fridge cleaning
  • You can get a team of cleaners in to get the job done in half the time

  • Drawback: To enable a cleaner to work some areas may require tidying before their arrive.


    The benefit of having a daily housekeeper are:


  • She has sufficient time to do both tidying and cleaning
  • She will be familiar enough with the way you manage your home so there will be less need for daily instructions
  • She can be there to take deliveries
  • She can manage the bigger household tasks such as cupboard organization
  • There will be less need to do 'spring cleans' as she will be on top of all aspects of the management of the cleanliness of your home

  • Drawback: Expensive and potentially intrusive.


    Do you provide holiday cover?


    We will give you notice when your Homebirds cleaner is going on holiday and provide a replacement cleaner for that period of time.


    We also provide holiday cover for customers who have a private cleaner. We would charge £13.99 an hour as it is only for a couple of weeks. If you choose to continue with our service we will of course drop to £10.99 per hour.


    Do you clean communal areas?


    We are happy to provide either daily, weekly or monthly cleaning of communal areas of office blocks, shared flats and blocks of flat.

    What is the difference between a spring clean and end of tenancy clean?


    Spring cleans are based on cleaning the nooks and cranny's that you or your cleaner cannot get to on a weekly cleaning basis such as woodwork, internal windows, oven and fridge. We have a basic list of tasks that you can add to based on the number of hours.


    End of tenancy cleans are more comprehensive and are usually based on the inventory requirements.


    What do I get if recommend a friend to Homebirds?


    We hope that good news travels fast. When one of our customers recommends a friend and they become a weekly customer we will give 2 free hours of cleaning as a 'thank you'.


    How do I pay Homebirds for regular cleaning?


    When we talk we will arrange a trial clean. You pay for that clean on the day with either cash or cheque. Once you give us the nod to say you are happy with your cleaner and day of clean, we will send you a welcome pack detailing your tasks, hours, cleaner profile and payment details.


    Customers are asked to set up a standing order. This will involve a monthly standing order for the average annual number of hours a cleaner comes to your home. E.g. A cleaner comes for 5 hours @ £10.99 x 52 weeks: 12 months = £238 per month.


    How do I pay Homebirds for one off and carpet cleaning?


    We ask that you give us your debit or credit card payment details at booking but can take cash or a cheque made out to Homebirds Ltd on the day.


    What if I go on holidays or do not need a cleaner for a week?


    For the times that a cleaner cannot get access or you are on holidays there are plenty of ways that we can make up the hours. If you are on holidays we can collect your post and water your plants. Do any jobs that fall out of the regular cleaning remit such as cleaning the fridge, the oven or clean the inside of the cupboards. Or we can collate the hours and do a spring clean a couple of days before you get back.


    If you are not physically at the property we will take payment from your card on the day of the clean.


    How does your carpet cleaning work?


    Our highly recommended professional equipment injects cleaning solutions at high pressures deep into the carpet and extracts it back out instantly.

    What stains can you remove from carpet cleaning?


    Our technically advanced system is designed to remove alcohol, blood, browning, butter, candle wax, chewing gum, coffee & tea, chocolate, cough syrup, crayons, eggs (raw), food colouring, fruit juice, furniture stain, glue, grass, gravy, grease, ice cream, lily pollen, jam, ketchup, lipstick, mildew, milk, mud, mustard, nail polish, oils, paint, rust, salt, shoe polish, soot, tar, toothpaste, urine, vomit and wine.


    What is the minimum for carpet cleaning?


    We charge a minimum of £60 per visit. This includes an expert carpet cleaner with a van supplying all professional equipment and cleaning solutions.


    How long before I can use the room?


    Usually with a standard carpet clean the carpet is dry after about an hour. If the carpet is particularly stained then leave it a little longer as more cleaning solution will have been used.


    What hours do your cleaners work?


    Our regular cleaners are available 7 days a week and tend to do 2 slots per day starting at 9am or 1pm. We are happy to arrange trial cleans in the evening and at weekends so that you can get to know your cleaner and give instructions.


    Our spring clean teams and carpet cleaners are available 7 days a week.


    Our commercial cleaning teams are available 24hrs a day 364 days a year. Please give us notice to arrange unusual hours.


    What happens if I am not happy with the quality of the clean?


    From our years of experience, we believe that cleaning is all about communication, managing what can be done in the time allocated to clean. As every job is different the physical time taken may be slightly longer than estimated over the phone. We do not allow cleaners to work longer than the time allocated unless approved by the client.


    If you feel that your regular cleaner is not achieving the standard you expect we will do a spot check and resolve the problem. Alternatively, we can change the cleaner for you until you find the cleaner that is just right for you.


    We understand it can be frustrating not to get the service you expect and Homebirds does everything possible to ensure a good job. On the rare occasions a one off clean is not done to your specification please you let us know within 24hrs of the clean and we will arrange for a cleaner to go back and redo the job.


    Can I get my landlord to pay for the clean?


    We ask that the person making the booking is responsible for payment. If you are not physically at the clean please arrange for payment in advance of the clean.


    Why does it take cleaners longer to clean my home than when I do it myself?


    A Homebirds cleaner is expected to leave all surfaces sparkle. That means that they have to wet and dry wipe all surfaces to ensure no water marks. A build up of limescale can be difficult to remove especially if it has not been tackled before. We promote the use of eco friendly cleaning products which do not contain corrosive chemicals which regular cleaning products contain which means that it takes a little longer to do the clean.


    How much does ironing cost?


    Ironing can be done for £10.99 per hour. Our cleaner will come to your property and can do between 6-8 shirts per hour. An average sized basket of clothes should take about 3 hours.
